Deactivating store SKUs and products

After you add a product or SKU to your catalog, you can no longer delete it individually, since the VTEX platform only allows bulk deletion of products and SKUs using the Full Cleanup feature. However, you can deactivate a product or SKU so that it no longer displays on your storefront.

This article explains how to deactivate a product or SKU and is divided into the following sections:

Product and SKU statuses

Both products and SKUs can be either active or inactive, as shown in the table below:

Product or SKU statusDescription
ActiveThe product or SKU was activated, indicating that the merchant intends to sell it on the storefront.

The sale of that product or SKU also depends on its activation and availability. For more information on product availability, see Products and SKUs and Why is the product not visible on the website?.

| | Inactive | The product or SKU is inactive, showing the merchant doesn't want it to display in the storefront for sale at the moment. |

Deactivating a product

To deactivate a product, follow the steps below:

  1. In the VTEX Admin, go to Catalog > Products and SKUs, or type Products and SKUs in the search bar at the top of the page.
  2. Click the row corresponding to the product you want. Use the search bar if needed.
  3. On the product editing page, turn off the Active toggle.
  4. Click Save.

.en all SKUs of a product are inactive, the product is automatically deactivated.

Deactivating a SKU

To deactivate a SKU, follow the steps below:

  1. In the VTEX Admin, go to Catalog > Products and SKUs, or type Products and SKUs in the search bar at the top of the page.
  2. Click the down arrow next to the product name to display the linked SKUs. Use the search bar if needed.
  3. Choose one of the following options:
    • In the SKU row, click the Deactivate icon and confirm by clicking Deactivate.
    • Or click the SKU row to access the edit page, turn off the Active toggle, and click Save.
